A pedal cyclist struck down by an identified Ministry of Health bus


And yet to regain consciousness, Cuthbert Crandon.

Kaieteur News – Cops has been able to identify the pedal cyclist who was involved in an accident with a minibus attached to the Ministry of Health last Friday.
According to police reports, the man, who remains critical, was identified yesterday as Cuthbert Crandon, 41, by his sister. He told police he has no stable home.
Crandon was struck down by the minibus sometime around 06:10 o’clock. on Friday along Vlissengen Road, Georgetown in the vicinity of the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) office.
He was at that time riding with a mattress on his head, and tried to cross to the west side of the road but instead stopped in the minibus route.
Police also noted that the bus was speeding. His driver, a 50-year-old resident, of Pike Street, Kitty, Georgetown, told investigators he had tried to swerve to the right but could not avoid hitting Crandon.
The bus, police reported, after hitting the cyclist struck further into a CCTV pole located on the west side of the road.
As the driver left the bus, Crandon lay silent on the road with notable injuries to his body.
He was rushed to hospital in an unconscious state, and as yet has not recovered consciously.
Doctors told police he suffered five broken ribs and a contusion to his lungs.
The driver has been released on bail since investigations continue.
