Pergola’s ‘Melting Pot’ set for next Saturday

Next Saturday, the Pergola Experience will present ‘The Melting Pot’ on the lawns of the Swiss Consulate in Queenstown, Georgetown, offering culture, art, music and cuisine prepared by Chef Kester Robinson.

Kester is becoming known for hosting out-of-the-box and refreshing experiences and many people have already reserved spots. A large percentage of the reservations have been made by Guyanese from the Diaspora who have returned home for a visit.

Kester shared that when he tried to come up with a new concept for the event, he looked more like he wanted to give his guests a trip down memory lane filled with nostalgia from the food to the music.

With ‘The Melting Pot’, Kester looks to infuse Guyanese culture in every way. Guests will be treated to Indian, Asian and Portuguese cuisine. The event will also bring the sno-cone man back to play. This was featured in a recent event and drew a lot of excitement from his guests. Popular Guyanese delicacies such as black pudding, white pudding, chicken foot, and tamarind balls will be available, and Kester said he connects with the people he knows who make these the best.

“We will also have games like hopscotch, Chinese [skipping] that we play using a bicycle tube; it’s the game where the tube is stretched between two players and goes from narrow upwards and wider while a third player jumps between them, ”shared Kester.

As it is about music, there will be Tassa and African drums and guests can enjoy this either sitting on the lawns, or high on Kester upcycling sewage.

Adding to the scenes will be an 18-year-old self-taught artist’s exhibition, some of which will be on sale.

Although most of the spots have already disappeared, a few remain but must be saved. The cost is $ 5,000 and guests are required to pay a advance at The Pergola Smokehouse and Lounge.

COVID protocols will be in effect. Customers are expected to wear their face masks on entry and while in the communal areas.

The Melting Pot experience will start at 2 pm and finish at 6.30 pm. To reserve a place, the number to contact is + 592-644-2221.
