Relatives of a woman who died at a GPHC hospital, file a police report over property

– state that a missing phone may have evidence of conflict between the deceased and the nurse

Deceased – Venesha Lewis.

Kaieteur News – Relatives of the late Venesha Lewis, who died along with her baby, last week filed a report with police at Central Police Station regarding her missing property. Kaieteur News had reported that following Lewis’s death, her cellphone, gold earrings and about $ 20,000 were missing from her belongings left at New Amsterdam Hospital after she was transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Relatives were ready to drop that, but a few days ago, they were informed that a nurse who had been attending Venesha at New Amsterdam Hospital was one of the people she had exchanged words with on social media.

The woman’s brother, Leon Lewis, told reporters, “we didn’t care about the phone at first, but once we learned that the phone had information that shows the relationship between the nurse and Venesha, that’s when we started pressing for the phone. ”

He revealed that the victim, in a murder that occurred on September 6, 2020, in Albion, was the nephew of one of the nurses who allegedly went to Lewis.

“The man who did the killing is Venesha’s brother-in-law, but they (a nurse and Venesha) exchanged some words on Facebook, but now they delete all that on Facebook,” he said. He added that the nurse along with other relatives had previously issued threats to Venesha when they attended court hearings for the murder case and one of the threats was, “One of the remains of a leaked gon in my hands one day.” Leon Lewis said it was reason enough to speculate that what happened to Venesha Lewis may have been a deliberate act and as such, he believes the police should investigate. Therefore, a report was filed.

Meanwhile, the brother told Kaieteur News that the District Health Officer for Region Six, Dr. Vishalya Sharma, visited their home in Williamsburg and apologized for what happened; however, he gave no answers to the relatives as it concerned what might have happened in the organization he oversees, he said.

She added that they were asking about the phone from the RHO, but noted that she had forgotten it. Lewis said they spoke to Regional Chairman David Armogan some time later and told them that Venesha’s phone, money and earring had been found, but when they spoke to the RHO yet to recover it, they were told the phone could not be found. Lewis said when the RHO visited, he picked up his cellphone and appeared to have spoken to someone named Mr. Khan said to her, “Put Venesha Lewis’ phone in the drawer of my office.”

“All of a sudden the phone went missing again, but we need that phone, my sister was trying to tell us something because she sent a picture of the nurse she had the exchange with,” she said.

Meanwhile, the mother of the dead woman, Claris Cecil, said it had been difficult to cope with their deaths. He said Venesha was holding the fort on their home after her husband (Venesha’s father) had not worked for months. She said her daughter caters for the household and still looks after her children who have been left behind.

“I lost my big daughter, she was healthy. I am husband for work for months and she uses to provide food in this house. I’m a girl who looks after us and she’s their children too, ”he said.

The final rites for Venesha and her daughter are due to be performed today, they will be buried in Rose Hall Town Cemetery.
