Security guard accused of murdering Cummings Lodge woman – News Room Guyana

On Monday a 46-year-old security guard was detained in prison for the murder of 53-year-old Marilyn Singh, named “Jean”, whose naked body was found in her Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD) room on December 11.

Ravindra Ramdeen of Eighth Street, Cummings Lodge, appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at Sparedaam Magistrates’ Courts and was not required to plead to the charge alleging murder of Singh during the course or promotion of rape.

The father of three was detained in prison until Feb. 1, 2021. Ramdeen was arrested last Thursday after a post mortem revealed that Singh had died as a result of a hand choking aggravated by blunt head trauma .

Assistant Police Commissioner Simon McBean told the Newsroom that Ramdeen had questioned him intensely and subsequently admitted he had committed the heinous act because Singh did not want to have sex with him.

Ramdeen, in his alleged confession, claimed that he and Singh shared a relationship. He alleged, around 21:30h on December 10, that he jumped the fence and entered the house through the rear veranda with Singh’s permission.

Ramdeen claimed that Singh hit her head on the bed after they engaged in sexual intercourse, however, when he tried to have sex with her again, he refused and consequently choked her.

Ramdeen told him to leave her lying dumb on the bed and went home. The woman’s body was discovered by her relatives the following morning.
