Police make raid on Essequibo Coast

Scores of Essequibians caught in large gatherings were arrested on Easter Monday for violating COVID-19 guidelines. The offenders were arrested at Adventure Resort, Lake Mainstay Resort, Golden Fleece and Capoey Lake.
Based on reports received, a crowd had gathered at the popular Capoey Lake despite being warned in advance not to do so.
The Force was rigorous in reinforcing the COVID-19 guidelines as the number of deaths and new cases skyrocketed over the past few days. On Sunday alone, four people died of the virus.
The families were arrested at a picnic in the popular resorts.
The National Secretariat of the COVID-19 Task Force said that people are barred from Easter activities held in parks, resorts, lakes, creeks. Alcohol consumption was also banned.
Up to press time, the Police had not released any information in relation to the number of people arrested. The offenders are expected to make their court appearance today.

Meanwhile, in Georgetown, Police raided several hotspots including Kingston Seaside, the National Park, D’Urban Park and the Botanic Gardens among others.
