Kast Talent Management in collaboration with Reeces Pieces will be hosting a six-day model workshop called Runway 101 that will start in two weeks.
The training session will be delivered by two of Kast Talent Management’s models, Michael Sam and Kureece King, who also owns Reeces Pieces. The idea for a workshop was Kureece’s, which has been planning the sessions since October last year.
The six-foot-tall woman has been a model for the past two years, while Sam has several years in the industry under his belt. Part of the reason why he decided to hold such an event, Kureece explained, is as a result of a photo shoot he did in December 2019. According to the model, it would be described as heavy, and following the December shooting, many people praised her for being bold to get into modeling. Realizing her influence on the public, she decided to have the workshop so that potential models can benefit from all the information provided through the sessions.
The workshop is for people who have little or no experience in modeling and are open to both sexes, must be 15 years of age or older. All participants will be required to wear black or dark clothing and girls and women should walk in their heels.
Runway 101, says Kureece, will offer information on the 14 different modeling categories, many of which listed: editorial, glamor, promotion and commercial. Kureece is a glamor and commercial model. Runway 101 will also learn about model ethics and preparing their portfolio. Participants will work in pairs on model practices. Three facilitators in the model industry will also take part in the event.
The final day of the workshop has been designated as a fun day and show, where participants will present some of their learning during their classes. The event will also allow small businesses to set up at the venue and put their products up for sale.
When asked how beneficial the workshop will be during a pandemic where many events are still banned, Kureece pointed out that participants will eventually be able to model in small events or become promotional or commercial models. In addition, because business entities are expected to attend the fun day and show, models may be scoured to represent their brands or take ads.
Upon completion, participants will receive certificates from Kast Talent Management.
Kureece noted that it is looking for more sponsors to come on board to donate tables and chairs and drinks, explaining that Xpress Delivery Service has already chosen to provide face masks and sanitizers for their participants.
Kureece recognized Kast’s Director of Talent Management, Khamisi Slowe, who has been assisting through all of this.
Registration costs $ 1,000 while the workshop is an additional $ 5,000. Participants are required to pay half their fees in the first session. All stationery is provided for the sessions.
The sessions are scheduled for two hours from 3 pm-5pm on April 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25. All COVID-19 protocols will be in effect.
The workshop location is at the Durban Street AH lot, Wortmanville. For more information, the team can be reached at [email protected] or [email protected] or 671-5909.
