After earning an Economics degree at the University of Guyana, Shivana Persaud found herself planning for several local businesses that were keen to put her knowledge to work. But in July 2018, when she was a pregnant mother, she decided to launch her own business, which saw the birth of Lure by Shiv, which produces and sells skin and hair products made from local ingredients.
It was one of more than 50 women-owned businesses exhibited at the ‘We Lift’ Women Empowerment Exhibition held at the Arthur Chung Conference Center last weekend.
Although raised in the city, Persaud is essentially a rural woman. Her parents come from Leguan and spent many childhood vacations on the island, where she saw how much people believe in their homemade vegetables and natural remedies. Unsurprisingly, therefore, Lure by Shiv promotes all natural, no-protein products, primarily plant-based products that are all human-tested before being sold.
