Stop dehumanizing women – Stabroek News

Since the pandemic began, women have faced the most. Some are forced out of their jobs because they do not have enough childcare due to school closures or are dismissed by their employers because they can no longer afford to have them on the payroll. Service industries such as hotels, restaurants, bars and retail outlets that tend to employ women have typically suffered most due to social distance restrictions.

I cannot begin to imagine the financial and psychological toll this is taking on women who have become so stressed and even more so now that gender-based violence appears to be at an all-time high. Women are trapped if they also happen to live with abusive partners.

We love to look at metropoles as ideal cities that have done everything right, but the reality is that women are being failed everywhere, in different ways. A few days ago, protests and vigils were held over Sarah Everard in the UK after she was kidnapped and murdered by a police officer. In the USA, a few days ago, 8 people were shot and killed, six of them Asian women
