Two girls under the age of 16 in Region One (Barima-Waini) have complained that they have been sexually abused by people close to them, police said Wednesday.

Investigators said the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA) was involved in the probes.

Police said they received a report on April 6 that allegedly one of the women had been raped by a “close family member” dating back to the end of last year. “Suspect began engaging in sexual activity with the minor victim during December 2020, and subsequently continued,” said Guyana Police.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

A law enforcement agency said the minor eventually confided in a female relative who immediately reported the matter to police at the above date and time.

Police are also looking for another person described as a “known person of interest” in connection with another sexual offense alleged to have occurred on April 6 at 5:30 PM. Investigators said the victim immediately notified a parent who subsequently reported an issue to police.

A man has been arrested in Region One in connection with an alleged rape of a woman. He filed a report with police on April 6 and a medical examination has been done, police said.
