Who would have thought this could have happened in America?

DEAR EDITOR,

Who could have thought this might have happened at The Mighty USA where it’s known for administering law and order? Who would have thought hooligans could have invaded Capitol Hill and turned it into an ordinary street brawl? Who could have ever imagined that congressmen and women had to run for cover and barricade themselves in the house after being attacked by a crazy dictator crowd? No one would have ever imagined, much less entertained at the thought that this might have happened in the former great US as the basis of democracy, but it certainly did, and they are currently licking their wounds following the attack.
Today America is not as scared of a terrorist attack as they have been, a crazy plain stiff named Trump, leading a host of unwary on to Capitol Hill; the fear is real, the fear is obvious. The citizens of this country are now locked in fear that something like this might have happened here on their doorstep, to the point that there might be a second wave, who knows? As someone rightly said the scenes that happened yesterday are reminiscent of Georgetown during and after an election that the PNC has lost. You talk about the burns, the lootings and the shooting, these are all common traits we see time and time again whenever that party loses. If I may add an election violence is real life issues in Guyana.
A friend of mine actually mentioned that the elected president Biden had heard saying “this is another situation in Georgetown that is happening here.” I would be the first to lend my hand to support that statement having lived through it so many times over. The point is – and this is where the Americans are having a cruel lesson that they will never forget – is the fact that when we linked our horror stories here in Guyana with them, they dismissed it as a joke.
Well come to think of it that Trump’s attack on Capitol Hill was not a joke, all he took was the insane words from a powerful leader that he won the election by a landslide and broke all hell. Good sense and rational thought were thrown out the window as brute force and ignorance (Caribbean version) took over. It relived the banana republic seances as the evil forces went on a rampage.
In closing, I will make this humble suggestion for the American Authorities to acquire Trump and a firm one in that regard. This lunatic campaign he has embarked on right now must be stopped! America must realize that this is not a matter of Democrats versus Republicans or of us against them, rather, America must realize that this is a serious attack on the survival of democracy in their country.

Respectfully submitted,
Neil Adams
