GMC – Kieron Pollard has described it as a “fantastic achievement” for being named by Wisden as the Leading T20 World Cricketer, and says he hopes to create more history in the coming year.
Wisden, cricket’s most authoritative and highly regarded publication, made the announcement late Wednesday, stating that the West Indies white-ball captain had distinguished himself by “[helping] Trinbago Knights riders to CPL glory and Mumbai Indians to another IPL title, showcasing his famous six hit skills along the way. ”
Under Pollard, TKR played unbeaten last year to capture the Caribbean Premier League for the fourth time ever. Weeks later, the Trinidadian played a key role in inspiring Mumbai to a successful defense of their IPL title and their fifth crown overall.
“[The year] 2020 has not been great for all of us, being hit by a pandemic. We didn’t expect something like this but we were able to use this time wisely, spend time with family, reflect and think about what we want to do, ”said Pollard from India where he is currently turned out for Mumbai in the IPL it got under way last week.
“I also got the chance to play some cricket and it has worked. Being able to be named the T20 2020 Player of the Year is a great achievement in what I think would have happened, and I would like to continue to make my family, friends and supporters real and people who support the Kieron brand Pollard pleased. . ”
Pollard has emerged as one of the world’s top T20 cricketers over the past decade, becoming known for his devastating sub-hit, brilliant pitch and clever mid-speed.
The 33-year-old is currently second on the all-time list of run scorers with 10 641 runs, just behind fellow West Indies teammate Chris Gayle with 13 760, and has amassed 293 wickets.
Pollard brought all his experience to influence the CPL campaign last year, averaging 51 with the bat and proving inspiration as a captain, as TKR imperiously marched through the tournament.
His record led him to be named last year on the International Cricket Council’s Decade Team of the Decade, which he labeled as “great little achievements.”
“Winning CPL, 12 games on the trot without losing a game was fantastic, winning the IPL for the fifth time – I think we have continued to break records and have personally continued to score runs,” said Pollard.
“I want to keep entertaining your fans, entertain my family, entertain my friends and at the end of the day, just try to do what God has given me talent to do, whatever the format.
“Being named T20 Player of the Year [for] 2020 and also named in the T20 Team of the Decade. These are great little, little achievements.
Pollard said he was also proud of his efforts this year, leading the West Indies to a T20 and ODI series victory over Sri Lanka last month, becoming the third player to hit six sixes in a T20 International match.
“We’re looking forward to a relatively decent start to 2021 as well, joining some esteemed company to hit six sixes in international cricket, and I look forward to continuing that kind of form and continuing to perform. ” Wisden also named former Test captain Jason Holder as one of his five Cricketers of the Year.
